Description

“Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” John Lewis To honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center cordially invites you to a special film screening to be followed by a social hour featuring light snacks, beverages, and the uplifting company of other activists in these troubling times. This event is free and open to all. It is not necessary to RSVP, but doing so greatly helps our planning (so we can be sure to have enough snacks).

Using interviews and rare archival footage, JOHN LEWIS: GOOD TROUBLE chronicles John Lewis’ 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health-care reform and immigration. Using past interviews with Lewis, director Dawn Porter explores his childhood experiences, his inspiring family and his fateful meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1957.

In addition to her interviews with Lewis and his family, Porter’s primarily cinéma verité film also includes interviews with political leaders, Congressional colleagues, and other people who figured prominently in his life.
